Irvine Unified School District

“…Providing the highest quality education we can envision” is the essence of Irvine School District’s vision. As stated in our Strategic Plan, the Board of Education is dedicated to focusing on significant results in order to make a meaningful difference in today’s and tomorrow’s world.

Proud Accomplishments of IUSD

Irvine Unified School District (IUSD) was formed in 1972. Currently, IUSD serves over 25,000 students with an annual budget of $200 million. We are fortunate to be in a community that understands the importance of a world-class education for our students. Talented, dedicated teachers and employees along with our devoted community partners are making a difference for our students every day in the classroom.

Our schools have earned the state’s highest honor, the label of California Distinguished School, 48 times since 1986.  All four of our comprehensive high schools have been recognized at least once.

IUSD students continue to move the needle on standards tests.  As a whole, IUSD posted an API score of 910, the highest in Orange County.

All four comprehensive high schools have earned the distinction as No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School, the nation’s highest level of recognition for K-12 campuses.  In all, IUSD has produced 12 Blue Ribbon schools since 1983.

IUSD is at the vanguard of the “green schools” movement.  In addition to generating hundreds of thousands of dollars in savings on utility bills through staff conservation efforts, the district has diverted approximately 1,200 tons of construction debris to recyclers for reuse since May 2008.  Moreover, IUSD continues to pursue strategic energy partnerships and is moving forward with a number of green initiatives included the installation of solar panels at 16 sites.

High schools in Irvine consistently rank in the top 10 in Orange County producing the highest SAT scores.

The Irvine Unified School District is unmatched in its performance at the annual Orange County Science & Engineering Fair Awards.  At this year’s event, IUSD students took home 51 of the 119 Director’s Awards.

IUSD’s campuses routinely earn a spot among the county’s best in the Orange County Register’s annual evaluation of elementary, middle and high schools and in 2010 all five of IUSD’s middle schools ranked in the newspaper’s top seven.

IUSD is ranked a 10 out of 10 by “GreatSchools”, with a per student expenditure far below the average.  Newsweek magazine regularly ranks our comprehensive high schools among the nation’s best.

Our newcomer program continues to make great strides with students who have arrived from other countries with little or no English skills.  Most are swiftly integrated into mainstream classrooms.

The Irvine Unified School District consistently produces dozens of semi-finalists in the annual competition for scholarships through the prestigious National Merit Scholarship Corp.  In 2010 15 students went on to secure National Merit Scholarships, which are awarded to only 0.5 percent of seniors nationwide.

IUSD sends more participants to the All-Southern California Honor Orchestra than any other district south of San Luis Obispo.

In May 2010, the highly regarded NAMM Foundation named IUSD one of the “Best Communities for Music Education”.

This year, more than 18,000 IUSD students were selected to showcase their musical and artistic talents in visual and performing arts events.

The Grammy Foundation has awarded six Grammy Signature Awards to IUSD high schools, more than any other district in the state.
