Sharon Wallin's Biography

In 1979 my husband and I purchased a home in Irvine and soon thereafter started our family.  We have remained homeowners in Irvine for over thirty years and have 3 children all of whom attended Irvine public schools kindergarten through 12th grade.  Our two sons are attorneys who live in Irvine and our daughter is a Graduate Student at Chapman University seeking her master’s degree in School Psychology. Recently our oldest son was married and our daughter-in-law is a doctoral graduate of UCI and is a Professor at the University of Missouri.

From the time my first son entered kindergarten in 1985, I have been an active volunteer for the Irvine schools. I served as founding PTA president for South Lake Middle School and served on the Irvine Unified PTA Council Executive Committee for over 15 years.  In addition, I was elected to numerous terms on School Site Councils at the elementary, middle and high school levels. My experience at the district level includes IUSD’s Finance Committee, IUSD’s Strategic Planning Committee, IUSD’s Legislative Action Coalition and Trustee for Irvine Educational Foundation, now named Irvine Public School Foundation.

In the spring of 2002 I was selected over a field of 15 highly qualified applicants to fill a vacancy on the IUSD Board of Education.  In both 2002 and 2006 the voters of Irvine overwhelmingly elected me to continue my service on the IUSD Board of Education.

Soon after becoming a member of the IUSD Board, I was elected to serve as a delegate for the California School Boards Association (CSBA) to represent Orange County schools (Region 15). My leadership role at the state level includes serving on CSBA’s Legislative Committee and active member of the California Association of Suburban School Districts.  I am currently serving as immediate Past President for the Orange County School Boards Association, Vice President of Coastline Regional Occupational Program and President of IUSD Board of Educaiton.

In addition to my service to Irvine schools, I have also volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, American Brain Tumor Association, Girls Scouts of America, Boy Scouts of America, Irvine Youth Basketball and I currently volunteer regularly at Families Forward.
